Calculate your ideal weight using Devine and Robinson formulas. Free ideal weight calculator with formula, examples, and FAQ.
The ideal weight calculator estimates your healthy body weight range based on height, gender, and body frame size. It uses two well-established medical formulas — Devine and Robinson — which were originally developed for clinical purposes such as drug dosage calculations. These formulas provide reasonable estimates for most adults but should not be the sole basis for health decisions.
Devine (Male): 50 + 2.3 × (height in inches - 60)
Devine (Female): 45.5 + 2.3 × (height in inches - 60)
Robinson (Male): 52 + 1.9 × (height in inches - 60)
Robinson (Female): 49 + 1.7 × (height in inches - 60)
Frame: Small -10% | Medium ±0% | Large +10%Both formulas calculate ideal weight based on height, starting with a base weight for someone who is 5 feet (60 inches) tall, then adding weight for each inch above that. The frame adjustment accounts for natural variation in bone structure and body build — people with larger frames can healthily carry more weight.
