Calculate excavation volume for your construction project. Free online excavation calculator with soil volume and truck load estimation.
The excavation calculator estimates the volume of soil to be removed for your construction project. It accounts for the swell factor — soil expands when excavated from its compacted state. This helps you plan truck loads and disposal requirements.
Volume = L × W × D | Loose Volume = Bank Volume × 1.25 | Truck Loads = Loose Volume / 12Bank volume is the soil in its natural compacted state. When excavated, soil typically swells 20-30% (we use 25%). A standard dump truck carries about 12 cubic yards. These are estimates — actual swell varies by soil type: sand 10-15%, clay 20-40%, rock 40-60%.
